As a high school teacher, Pat Murton noticed that many boys experienced difficulties learning to read. Although the prevalent thought at the time was that reading was inherently easier for girls, Mr. Murton believed that by working closely with children, they could all become effective readers regardless of gender. He founded Murton's Child Development Center in 1956 to offer an in-depth reading program to pre-schoolers as young as three years of age. Over time Mr. Murton was proven correct, and the child development center bearing his name continued to grow and expand the curriculum it offers to area children. We met recently with Director Hajni Fekete, and listened as she outlined the services provided by Murton's Child Development Center;
