The annual opening of Dariview has heralded the arrival of spring for Fairview Park residents since the mid-1950s. From the time the lights go on and the first customers begin to line up at the window, co-owners Paulette Baglyos and Shelley Shupp continue Dariview's decades-long tradition of serving refreshing ice cream treats to the young and old alike.

This quintessential, charming little ice cream stand at the corner of W. 220 and Lorain Road serves a wide variety of hard-pack and soft serve ice cream, sherbet, flurries, shakes, malts, and ice cream sundaes. Flavors range from chocolate and vanilla to cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, cotton candy, and strawberry, with flavors such as lime and raspberry making guest appearances on the menu throughout the year. One of Dariview's all-time best-sellers is their orange swirl, a tantalizing blend of orange sherbet and vanilla soft serve.

Just like many small-town, family-oriented businesses, Dariview has not only become part of the local community's history, but has also provided many area youngsters with their very first jobs and others with memories that will last a lifetime. For example, Shelley's cousin met his wife at Dariview while they were both in high school. He lived just down the street and frequently came to the ice cream stand to see the cute, little blond girl in the window. After working up enough nerve to finally ask her out, they dated, married, and now have two lovely children of their own. Is that cute, or what?
