Willowood Manor was founded in 1989 by the Fairview Park Senior Apartment Corporation (FPSAC) on land purchased from the City of Fairview Park with a loan from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Board of Trustees of FPSAC is comprised of members of the Fairview Community American Baptist Church, Fairview Grace United Methodist Church, Messiah Lutheran Church, and St. Angela Merici Roman Catholic Church sharing the goal of providing senior citizens and the handicapped with convenient, affordable housing. We met recently with Leila Awad, Administrator, and listened as she described Willowood Manor's services and offerings;

Willowood Manor consists of seventy housing units for senior citizens in a friendly, family-oriented setting. We have seventeen efficiency apartments and fifty-three one bedroom apartments with seven handicapped-accessible units available to seniors age sixty-two and over. Rental is based on 30% of the tenants income, and each unit includes appliances and all utilities with the exception of telephone and cable service.

We have a service coordinator who helps residents ensure their paperwork for social services programs is handled properly, and on-call maintenance available twenty-four hours a day. Each apartment has conveniently located pull switches which contact our switchboard when residents need emergency assistance. We're next door to City Hall, the fire department, and the Mayor's office, which makes Willowood Manor one of the most secure properties in the community.

Our residents have use of our community room, complete with a full kitchen, for gatherings such as birthday parties with their families, and we provide frequent social activities for the benefit of our residents. Our laundry facility is located on the second floor where we have six washers and dryers available twenty-four hours a day. Each unit is fully heated and air conditioned and the cost is included in the rent.

Willowood Manor has a staff of five dedicated to serving our residents, some of whom have been with us since the very beginning. We typically have a waiting list of six months to a year and is a great housing option for local residents who want to continue to reside in the community and remain close to their family members.
