After growing up on a dairy farm, Mr. Weber left the farm in the late 1920s and found a job at Soeder Dairy Company's Euclid Beach Park concession producing and selling fresh vanilla ice cream. Within a very short time, Mr. Weber approached the owners with the suggestion that they expand their offerings to include a variety of different flavors. The response he received was, "Kid, we can sell as much vanilla as we can make. Why would we want to go to all that trouble?" Undeterred, young Mr. Weber re-approached the company at the end of the season and explained that he was bound and determined to make flavored ice cream. The company still wasn't interested and recommended that he do it on his own, as long as he located his operation as far west of Cleveland as Euclid Beach was to the east. In 1931 Mr. Weber founded Weber's Fresh Ice Cream on the then unpaved Hilliard Road in Rocky River, Ohio, which at that point in time was little more than a tiny, dusty beach town. He built a building and purchased a pair of the same very expensive machines as those used at Euclid Beach Park. Starting with the same marvelous vanilla he had learned to make from his previous employer, Mr. Weber soon began working on chocolate, strawberry, banana, and lemon flavors. When a customer told him how much he enjoyed Weber's Chocolate Malted milkshakes and suggested that he consider making something like that to go in a cone, Mr. Weber developed his now famous Frosted Malt and was hailed as a creative genius. David Ford purchased Weber's Premium Custard & Ice Cream following the 1995 season and opened again on April 1, 1996, the day of the Cleveland Indian's home opener. That was the year that the home opener was called off due to snow -- and so was David's opening! He reopened the doors the following day, and the rest, as they say, is history. We visited with David recently, and listened as he provided this overview of the taste sensations awaiting you at Weber's Premium Custard & Ice Cream;
